I’ve been with Scalefocus for over five years as a Senior Software Engineer. Before that, I spent years living in Germany as an expatriate. Coming back wasn’t just about the job offer, though that was definitely a factor.
Tech & Career
What has first sparked your interest in your field?
Problem-solving. When you use tech tools to solve a problem, it’s far more interesting than traditional mathematical approaches. While I was studying Programming and Structuring at university, my interest really began to grow. Of course, a significant part of my inspiration came from my professors, particularly the one who taught me Data Structures. In fact, he and his team are among the people who built many of the tools we use today. I was lucky enough to drink directly from the fountain of knowledge.
How do you balance innovation and stability when leading complex technical projects?
I’m a bit of a traditionalist and believe in building on strong foundations. No matter how fast tech evolves, everything’s built on the basics. It’s thrilling to create something “new,” but when you look closer, it usually comes from something older that’s stood the test of time. Even AI follows this pattern.
Project you’re proud of?
My first project at Scalefocus, a European Commission initiative called FNS Cloud for university institutes. We were one of the few technical partners, working on topics like biology and biochemistry. Later I worked in automotive and now aviation. Can’t complain about diversity!
How do you keep your work ahead of the curve?
I won’t lie, staying ahead of the curve is challenging. One of my tactics is to read the news daily, mostly about AI but also about data technologies. Since we have extensive data experience, it’s pretty easy to identify the advantages and challenges. However, the AI topic must be observed closely since it’s so fast- evolving in the blink of an eye, something new emerges.
It’s important to be critical of the sources we use for news and information. They must be trustworthy.
What’s one emerging trend you’re actively experimenting with?
A specific trend – no, but I’ve had my eye on something for quite some time: OpenClaw. So I’m eager to find some free time and see what’s going on there.

Why and how did you become an SME in our AI ScaleCamp?
After the initial flattery of being picked, reality hit – this was a real responsibility. The learning journey combined my favorite topic (the fundamentals) with current trends. The challenge was worth it; once you have the foundation, you can understand anything built on it.
Did you learn anything while you were teaching?
Yes, I did. And I’m so glad. The questions and topics the participants raised sparked my interest in delving deeper into the subjects to better guide them.
What’s the small print in the AI trend that is likely to be missed?
I won’t exaggerate: AI is really evolving fast. If you want to stay relevant, you should learn constantly. But when you invest too much time in learning, you come to the realization that innovations don’t actually happen so fast. Yes, new models are coming out, but they’re just updating the previous ones. The simple truth is that AI isn’t everything.
What does AI give us, and what will it take from us?
It provides much more precise information and automates many processes. It will also help us see our blind spots as a society, particularly in repetitive work. And it will give us ideas for improving these processes. A lot of people are afraid that AI will take their jobs, but I disagree. Use AI as a reference to boost productivity. See it as an opportunity, not a threat.

Philosophy for leading teams?
Transparency above all. No matter your level or expertise, when you’re open and honest instead of buying time, results are better. Be human. Some things are good, some aren’t, but conversation sparks team effort. Flexibility matters, too. Requirements change as fast as the weather – those who adapt become invaluable.
Leadership lessons learned the hard way?
Listen to others. Leaders often think they know best. Instead, push back that urge, hear what the team says, and build strategy together.
Beyond the Code
Favorite way to recharge after big engineering challenges?
The usual forms of entertainment – TV series, movies, games, walks outside, hanging out with friends, and actually socialising. As you already know, I enjoy the basics, and you wouldn’t be surprised if I told you I love rewatching favorite shows again and again. You know the good old classics – Friends, The Big Bang Theory & so on.
I’m more of a summer person, and I try to stay as long as I can on the seashore. Naturally, with this preference comes one of my hobbies. I love free diving, and I’m actually a certified diver. And here is an unpopular opinion – diving in Greece is as relevant as diving in some exotic destinations.
One fun or unexpected fact your colleagues might be surprised to learn?
None of them would assume that I actually play video games. But I do. Again – the old, but gold ones. I would not call myself a gamer, and yet from time to time I do enjoy immersing myself in some gaming.
