Airline Disruption Management: IROPS Recovery Engine
Success Story
An EU airline’s ops control team was managing IROPS without a shared view, structured recovery options, or consistent outcomes across shifts. Scalefocus delivered an agentic recovery engine above NetLine/Ops and AIMS that contains the cascade before it spreads and puts costed options in front of the duty manager within minutes of a disruption.
The Client
A European airline’s operations control team that is responsible for managing weather and air-traffic disruptions across aircraft, crews, and passengers. Recovery was coordinated manually under time pressure, with crew control, network ops, and customer teams each working from their own view of the situation.
The Challenge
When a disruption hit, each team assembled their part of the picture independently, by phone, and without costed trade-offs between options. While alternatives were being gathered, knock-on delays spread through the rotation, and passenger compensation exposure grew. There was no structured process to contain the cascade, so the same disruption could produce different outcomes depending on the shift.
The Solution
Scalefocus delivered a recovery engine above the airline’s ops control and crew systems that detects the event and simultaneously assesses the cascade across aircraft, crew, and ground resources. It also puts structured options in front of the duty manager in minutes rather than at the end of a phone round. It generates 3 to 5 ranked recovery plans, each with costs and knock-on impacts made explicit, and writes the chosen plan back only once a duty manager approves it. This way, every recommendation is explainable and audited.
The Results
- 25-30% fewer delays, earlier costed decisions contain the cascade before it spreads
- Recovery options ready in minutes rather than hours of phone coordination
- 3-5 ranked, costed recovery options per event, consistent outcomes regardless of who is on duty
