Success Story

A dental and oral health leader entrusted Scalefocus to become its IT services partner and develop two core products. One is a web-based software solution that enables dental clinics to improve the management efficiency of booking appointments, patient profiles, treatment-related documents, etc.

The other is a mobile app that focuses on enhancing patient oral health by simultaneously providing educational content, a preventive oral care mindset, communication with professionals, and rewarding programs.

The Client

Founded in 1954, the Swiss company is one of the most recognizable and fastest-growing oral health organizations. It specializes in training dental professionals and manufacturing over 120 innovative products available in more than 60 countries worldwide.    

Not that long ago, our client started their digitalization journey. The inspiration behind this decision was the passion to provide exceptional oral health products and services and do that in close collaboration with dental and medical professionals.

The Challenge

The company was using different technological vendors for its various products with debatable success. This made all processes ponderous, and communication was extremely difficult, not helped by geographical distance and cultural differences. As a result, the digitalization they were striving for was far off the mark, and their products and services were not evolving as fast and efficiently as desired.  

Naturally, at some point, the company management realized they needed to rely on a single technological partner whose expertise would be sufficient to guide them through their digital journey and improve their existing products. They could also use assistance with their technological and team transition.

The company needed to unite two product lines in a single roadmap, which would always be challenging. Last but not least, they aimed to adopt new foreign markets in countries they had not penetrated yet and were unsure how to approach.

 

The Solution

Scalefocus assembled two separate Scrum units to replace the existing teams. Of course, our experts had to have vast experience, which is invariably critical when tackling such sizeable and daunting tasks. First, the Scalefocus teams created a migration strategy that included team composition and consultation on new technology stack selection. We also built a strategy to overcome product differences and achieve consistency that had been sorely missing by then.

As there were multiple crucial features to sustain, improve, and stabilize, our team had to redesign and rearchitect all solutions from scratch, so a lot of cutting-edge technology was involved. We also re-developed a Desktop agent that connects various hardware devices like printers, X-ray scanners, etc. This way, we tackled numerous existing pain points, such as the lack of Mac support, prolonged and problematic updates, missing integrations, etc.

Prior to Scalefocus’ intervention, our customers were using a legacy version of Dental practice software management. However, they decided to switch to a current, more sophisticated, and strictly dedicated dental practice version that would enable dentists to schedule appointments with patients and manage schedules. The software development of the management portal they had as a Proof of Concept with another vendor was entirely transferred to Scalefocus. We also consulted them before they made any decisions on the QA and PM part they were in charge of.

The second project, the mobile app, is a collaborative solution that connects patients and doctors. Its Standard version is for patients only and enables them to communicate with doctors. The Pro version provides dental practices with their own online store with the company products as a welcome addition to basic communication with patients via HIPAA-compliant chat. This way, patients can now chat with doctors, purchase dental products, and watch educational videos on dental products, dental hygiene, etc.

We took over the app from another vendor and rewrote, redesigned, and rearchitected the solution from scratch. We also delivered the desktop agent installed on the dentists’ computers to connect various hardware devices like printers and X-ray scanners and grant quick access to patient health records.

The Results

Our customers can now leverage totally revamped dental health solutions, including a complete redesign and new architecture. Due to Scalefocus’ guidance and consulting throughout their digitalization journey, they have vastly elevated their management efficiency. Naturally, this has resulted in higher productivity and reduced cost.

Newly acquired HIPAA compliance is also critical to safeguarding all sensitive health information and preventing costly breaches that could cause the loss of patient trust and loyalty. Feedback from both dental organizations and patients has unanimously praised the palpable improvement in user experience. Last but not least, the revamped core products have allowed the company to enjoy unprecedented expansion into brand-new markets.
